Au revoir Mr Rajah

Vassie Rajah (Large)

The popular and charismatic ex-principal of Allandale Primary school retired just two weeks ago after 38 years of dedicated and devoted service. Rajah commemorated his retirement by walking with retired principals, teachers and former pupils from the spot the Baijoo and Maharaj School was situated to Allandale Primary.

The Sports Veteran’s Association (SVA) paid tribute to Rajah in last week’s Public Eye praising him as a “true people’s person” whose work in education and sport made him “something of a legend”.

SVA representative, Jay Rangiah, confirmed that Rajah had been hospitalised since February 1, his first day of retirement and had many serious chest complications.

Retired school inspector and Rajah’s close family friend Hans Jangwanth, said Rajah was very ill and sadly passed away. “Mr Rajah and I have worked together for many years and we were very close as I lived just down the road from him. We are indeed very saddened by his death as he was a true legend,” said Jangwanth.

The funeral service of Rajah will take place tomorrow (Tuesday) at the Gujarati Vedic Society Hall from 12:30pm.

More on the life and times of Mr Rajah to follow.
