Community nabs errant dumper

Matters, however, came to a head on Wednesday morning when a person was caught red-handed in the act of dumping in Trichy Road, Raisethorpe and subsequently fined R1000.

A vigilant resident, who was driving through the suburb, at about 10.30am posted a picture and message on the SAMREM (South African Minority Rights and Equality Movement) whatsapp group saying he had “just caught someone dumping in Trichy Road and made him reload it”.

Msunduzi Municipality environmental health department representatives Clive Anthony and Dumisane Cele were quick to respond to the call-out and arrived at the scene to issue the R1000 spot fine.

Residents are now hoping that this sends out a strong message to all those who dump illegally in the suburb.

The municipality has urged residents to report illegal dumping by calling Dumisani Cele on 033 3922169/0832774678 or email
