The suspect was arrested two weeks ago after the girl’s mother awoke during the night and discovered that her daughter had left the CBD shelter where they currently reside. It is believed the girl crept out of the shelter with some of her friends. They then went to the house in West Street to meet the foreign national.
It is alleged the man forced the little girl to spend the night there. Whilst she was asleep he allegedly jumped into bed with her, removed her underwear and then proceeded to rape her.
The man was arrested the next morning when a tip-off by a neighbour led the girl’s mother and police to the house where they found the child cowering under the man’s bed.
The man was then taken into custody and charged with statutory rape once the rape was confirmed.
Police spokesperson Captain Khosi Khonjelwayo said the mother and child were still traumatised by the incident and that the accused was denied bail upon application and was still in custody.
