Community group to the rescue again

Community activist Suniel Beharie said the Sector 4 group was tipped off by Night Owl Security of an incident that occurred outside the pub on Saturday night.

“We went to the pub that night and viewed the footage. We saw that the altercation began inside the pub with the visibly drunk men. Thereafter the three men allegedly attacked the one man by stabbing him four times, hitting him with a bottle and strangling him with a chain,” said Beharie.

Pictures were then taken of the suspects and a search was then conducted throughout the neighbourhood into the early hours of the morning to no avail.

The next day Ashveer Lakhraj from the Sector 4 group found the man who had been stabbed and saw that the man had tended to his wounds and was in a stable condition.

He then accompanied the man to Mountain Rise Police Station where they opened a case of assault. Sector 4 and RZS Security then launched a sting operation and managed to trace the suspects using their wide, local network.

“When we met them they told us how they allegedly stabbed and hit the man with a bottle,” said Beharie. He said that the two men were then handed over to the Mountain Rise Police where they were charged and kept. “As there were three men involved the one suspect is still at large,” said Beharie.

Mountain Rise police spokesperson Joshua Maistry confirmed that the men were arrested and are expected to appear in court soon.
