Local TV personality, Riona Rajkumar, was recently nominated as a finalist in the Margaret Hirsch Women in Business Achiever of the Year 2018 competition. The 31-year-old mother of two from Athlone was recognised for her contribution to society, as well other achievements.
The competition, created by the Hirsch’s Group, selects top business women from the areas in which Hirsch’s stores operate in KwaZulu-Natal. The regional winner and winner from each area will be announced at a gala dinner on Friday, May 11, at Coastlands Hotel.
Her nomination as a finalist was announced at the Hirsch’s networking morning in Umhlanga in February. She was nominated under the Umhlanga branch after delivering a motivational talk titled, “Make your dreams a reality” at the event.
“The talk was delivered to a group of entrepreneurs, with whom I shared my personal story to inspire and motivate the group on how they should persevere and make their dreams come true amidst the ever-changing and challenging times.”
Rajkumar, who often presents talks to various groups to empower, inspire and motivate, said she was humbled by the recognition.
“I am humbled by this recognition. Being recognised as a woman of purpose making strides in society to not only empower myself but the larger community as well is something that I will always be grateful for. I don’t ever see it as an accolade that puts me on a pedestal but instead as an acknowledgement that I am doing something right and as I grow so do I help others to shine,” said Rajkumar.
This career woman, mum, wife, daughter and sister is also a humanitarian. She immerses herself in community and charitable initiatives. She is also a management member of the Vishwa Shakti organisation that holds annual leadership and creative arts camps. Rajkumar, who is an MBA graduate, is a Corporate Saver and Investment Specialist in the banking sector, and is a presenter on Glow TV’s Glow on the Go show. She recently made her debut on radio when she co-hosted the Sunday Edition show on Megazone Radio last year. This year, Rajkumar will make her debut film appearance in the South African movie, Broken Promises 4-Ever, when it releases on July 27 country-wide.
In 2015, she was crowned Mrs India South Africa and she also won the titles of Mrs Intellectual, Best Talent and Mrs Social Responsibility. In 2016, Rajkumar was awarded as a Retail and Business Banking achiever for her outstanding achievements in her role in the banking sector.
She is steadfast in her focus and has persevered to accomplish her goals despite various challenges.
