President Ramaphosa calls for unity after local Councillor’s killing

Mchunu was shot as he was exiting his vehicle at his home in KwaPata in the Pietermaritzburg area of the ANC’s Moses Mabhida region on Friday night. Mchunu was the ANC branch regional convenor in the Moses Mabhida region.

Accompanied by the ANC’s working committee (NWC) President Ramaphosa visited Mchunu’s home in Kwa-Pata, Edendale today, where he stressed that the importance of unity within the political party.

 

The president highlighted that Kwa Zulu-Natal is the leading province in brutal political killings, Mchunu being the 14th person to be killed from the ANC Moses Mabhida Region.

“Political killings should not go unattended”, said the President.

Speaking outside Mchunu’s home, Ramaphosa said he has tasked Minister of Police, Bheki Cele, giving him a week to compile a report regarding the progress of killings that have occurred and the investigation regarding Mchunu’s case.

“Comarade Mchunu’s blood that has been spilt must strengthen the ANC. He fought for unity. This must be evident in getting him justice,” said Ramaphosa
