Royal Show comes to town

The Puma Flying Lions will be in action at the Royal Agricultural Show.

Let the good times roll. The 2018 Pietermaritzburg Royal Show comes to town from the May 25 to the June 3.With promises of a jam-packed programme, this is the not-to-miss family event of the year.
“Whether it’s to see the cattle competitions, medieval battles or show-jumping events, the showgrounds will be full of action with never a dull moment,” says the Royal Show’s general manager, Terry Strachan. “The many stalls offer tasty treats to take home, plenty of retail therapy, a bunch of country crafts, clothing, gifts, DIY gadgets and much more.”
Music takes centre stage at this year’s show with the best in SA beats. Mi Casa, Matthew Mole, and Matt Gardiner are first to kick-off the sound party. Kwaito legend L’vovo, Gagasi FM’s Sphectacula and Naves, scintillating DJ Happy Girl and electrifying Beezory are gearing up to rock the crowd at the uMgungundlovu Youth Festival later in the week. Popular
Afrikaans stars, Elizma Theron, Brendan Peyper and Refentse bring their toe-tapping tunes to the concert mix. On a classical note, the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra will delight with a selection of easy listening favourites. The glittering
Hindvani FM extravaganza and Bhangra completes the magical Royal music line-up.
Buckle up for the ride when non-stop skills and spills rev up in the main arena. Machines of all shapes and sizes will amaze and thrill when the Demolition Derby, Powasol Enduro-X Series and Monster Energy Flight Night, crank up the atmosphere for petrolheads. Firing up in another way is the Working with Fire team who will demonstrate how they keep dangerous blazes at bay.
An array of four-legged competitors vie for top spots in the cattle Gold Cup Parade, the equestrian showing classes, and national dog agility trials. Look up for airborne action when the Harvard Puma Flying Lions and hi-tech drones take to the skies. Then it is eyes-down when the Soweto Towers Vertical Adventure Centre adds the bungee and the SCAD freefall to ramp up the adrenaline mix.
Expect nothing less than a prized palate-pleasing festival of food and drink from the over 2000 sqm Mercury Festival of
Fine Living Hall. Celebrate the presence of prized boutique breweries and gourmet goodies from cheese makers to chocolatiers.
Check out the other happening highlights of KZN’s best day out. Wrap up for winter in handmade knits from the Sheep,
Goat and Wool Expo, buzz past the Honey Hall, fly up high on the Karkloof Canopy Zipline and take a seat at the River Stage. Diarise the dates and share in new experiences at the 2018 Pietermaritzburg Royal Show.
