About 20 kgs of high grade dagga with an estimated street value of R60 000 was recovered over the weekend during an undercover operation by the Mountain Rise Crime Prevention Unit and Crime Intelligence officers.
Seven people were arrested and charged in five cases for dealing in dagga.
Brigadier Boxer Pillay said the six month operation showed that the officers were clamping down on drug dealers and bringing them to book.
“I commend the officers for the outstanding work they have done. This type of operations will continue until every last drug dealer has been arrested. The community is encouraged to report any drug activities in their area to the station commander, Mountain Rise Crime Prevention Unit officers, detectives and Crime Intelligence officers,” he said.
Apart from the undercover operation, officers also embarked on several Crime Prevention operations and suspect raids over the weekend. The Crime Prevention officers and detectives joined forces and saturated the policing area targeting hot spots, as well as known areas where crime is normally on an increase over the weekends.
Officers performed high visibility blue light patrols, as well as conducted stop-and-search patrols which resulted in arrests for theft, assault, burglaries, house robberies, driving under the influence, possession of dagga, possession of narcotics, dealing in drugs, disturbance, drinking in public and violation of a protection order, bringing the number of arrests to 41.
In addition to the arrests, blood kits, pistols, pistol magazines, shotgun, 9mm rounds, knives, bolt cutters, an amplifier, dagga, and mandrax and heroine powder totalling R25 000 were recovered.
