World record attempt for Gift of the Givers

Marinus du Plessis (right) is all set for the Artic-to-Athens journey.

Marinus du Plessis (55) of Gauteng, will undertake a 40 day, 11 000km solo journey jet-skiing from Artic-to-Athens in honour of Tata Mandela, Mandela Day and to raise funds for Pietermaritzburg-based international humanitarian and aid organisation, the Gift of the Givers.
Funds raised by du Plessis will be used by the Gift of the Givers to enhance their support for projects dealing with the physically and mentally challenged, including autism. Funds raised are to be dedicated by the Gift of the Givers to provide for wheelchairs and to assist Autism South Africa to support affected children. The export company owner begins his record-breaking attempt on Saturday from Rognan, in Norway. He will jet-ski through the rough North Sea, traverse the English Channel, the world’s busiest waterway, before skimming across the Mediterranean to Athens, Greece. A team of jet-ski riders will accompany Du Plessis for the first 40 km on the first leg of his journey of this charitable endeavour. He will attempt to break the world jet-ski record of 3000km on Mandela Day, July 18. Visit www.arctic2athens.org for more details.
