The much-anticipated Dolphin Premier League (DPL) is set to get underway on August 25 with some pre-events being held in Pietermaritzburg with participating team Jooma Properties Zulu Kings.
The DPL, incorporating the best Durban and Pietermaritzburg club players, along with contracted KZN Coastal, Inland and Academy players, is a way of trying to “upskill” the players at the lower levels of cricket by exposing them to players who have been involved at provincial level and higher.
The eight-team tournament is set to take place over three weekends, starting on the final weekend of August. The competition then moves to Pietermaritzburg for the first weekend of September and culminates in the finals at Kingsmead Cricket Stadium on September 8-9.
One of the eight competing teams is the Jooma Properties Zulu Kings comprising of the following players: Pienaar Buys, Gareth Dukes, Hussain Essop, Ruben Hattingh, Graham Hume, Xolani Mahlaba, Jason Mathews, Shaldon Mungroo, Smangaliso Nhlebela, Jason Oakes, Juan Pretorius, Michael Schlanders, Gareth Schreuder, Mthokozisi Shezi, Prenelan Subrayen. The Jooma Properties Zulu Kings will be at the Cascades Mall for a Mum’s and Son’s Day including a signing session on August 9, between 9-11am. A game will also be played on the same day between the Inland Academy and Jooma Properties Zulu Kings at 2pm at the Oval Varsity.
