Mother relieved that child is safe and sound

An emotional Nokulunga Zondo is relieved and happy that her 12-year-old daughter, Naledi, was found safe and sound in Durban over the weekend.
Overcome with tears of joy, Zondo said she and her family have yet to address Naledi’s abrupt disappearance. “We are just happy she is back home and safe. We are not ready to have that discussion now.”
After a tireless four-day-search for Naledi, which concluded successfully on Friday night at around 9pm, she was located by a SAPS search team in Northbeach, Durban. Speaking to Public Eye on Saturday morning, the relieved mother could not contain her emotions of her reunion with her daughter.
“I would like to thank everybody who spread the message and kept valuable support coming my way,” said Zondo.
It is believed Naledi was hidden by vagrants, despite being aware of the vigorous search. “Naledi was hidden by amaphara (vagrants) who were aware we were searching for her. Leads received stated she was spotted with them,” said Zondo. A prostitute from Jika Joe Informal Settlement also called Zondo after seeing an article in a newspaper with Naledi’s picture. The prostitute told Zondo she knew that Naledi was in Durban.
Recalling the moment she found her daughter, Zondo said, “I couldn’t even stand. I sat down and broke into tears. I have never felt like this before. Seeing my child alive made me realise how lucky I am.
“I am so thankful that she was given to me alive. Naledi taught me that she can function independently on her own,” she said.
Zondo further admitted that there are possible problems needing to be addressed regarding Naledi’s emotional well-being.
“I am so proud of her. She showed me that she’s very strong. I can see that there are things that are hurting her inside. I want her to know how much I love her. And I thank God for giving me a another chance to be a better parent to my children,” said Zondo.
